Leaked: OS 6.0.0.214 for the BlackBerry Torch 9800
by Bla1ze on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
Since the initial release of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 we’ve not seen many leaked OS’ for it. Some arrived before launch but after that, only one OS. The last was OS 6.0.0.161 which was not all that great and left a lot to be desired for in new Torch owners. Now, we have a new build to check out. OS 6.0.0.214 has leaked online. If any of you all are going to brave the installation then of course, be sure to back up your data.
*OS Disclaimer – Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you’re comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base – do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Official OS 5.0.0.822 for the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and 8900 now available from T-Mobile
by Adam Zeis on Sep.03, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
T-Mobile has officially released OS 5.0.0.822 for both the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and BlackBerry Curve 8900. We’re seeing a trend now with the ol’ .822 as this joins both the Rogers and AT&T Bold 9000 releases. Surely there is some new and slightly improved goodness with this OS, so if you’re ready and willing give it a go. Its been a while since we’ve seen an update for either of these devices, so be sure to drop a comment and let us know how its working for you if you upgrade.

Leaked: OS 5.0.0.912 for the BlackBerry Curve 3G
by Bla1ze on Aug.31, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
If you are new BlackBerry Curve 3G owner you may want to look into installing this. No, it’s not quite a BlackBerry 6 build that your device is destined to get eventually but, it is likely one of the last OS 5.0 build you will see for it. We’ve not gathered any feedback on this release so do yourself a favor and follow the usual tips. Back up your data before loading and of course, be sure to delete any vendor.xml files if one is indeed present.

Bell holding back BlackBerry 6 updates until 2011?
by Bla1ze on Aug.26, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
Sure seems that way. Some leaked documents from Bell Mobility show that BlackBerry 6 isn’t set for release on other capable devices until 2011. While Bell is set to release the BlackBerry Torch 9800 anytime now, the newly announced BlackBerry Curve 3G nor the BlackBerry Pearl 3G will get it right away, let alone the previously released BlackBerry Bold 9700.
As we’ve seen in the past carriers are often terribly slow to update to new OS’ which, for customers is never really a good practice to see happening. While this information only gives us a look at Bell, it could be rather indicative of other carrier plans as well. Just look how long it took AT&T to release OS 5.0 for the BlackBerry Bold 9000. As BlackBerry users we always want to have the latest updates and that often means relying upon leaked OS’ or using OS’ from other carriers that are more liberal with their updates. Truly hoping Bell decides to change this plan, in the long run it’s not great for their customer base to be stuck on an older OS.

If you’re still hanging on to that old reliable Bold 9000 you’re in luck today as AT&T has officially released OS 5.0.0.822. We don’t often talk about the 9000, but I know there are plenty of you who refuse to let it go. By now you are most likely running a leaked 5.0 or one from another carrier, but if you’re on AT&T today is your day. Head over to the software downloads page below to get rolling. Thanks Parth!

Official OS 5.0.0.810 for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 now available from U.S. Cellular
by Adam Zeis on Aug.18, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
Nicely timed with their release of the Bold 9650, U.S. Cellular has made available OS 5.0.0.810 for download. This is a later version than what shipped on both Verizon and Sprint devices, so if you are on a different carrier you may want to give it a go. Users picking up a Bold from U.S. Cellular today can grab it as well and get a head start on things. Head over to the link below to download.

Official OS 5.0.0.741 for the BlackBerry Storm 2 9520 released by Indosat
by Bla1ze on Aug.16, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
Hey, a little bit of confusion circulating with this one. So here’s the story. Indosat posted OS 5.0.0.741 official for the BlackBerry Storm 2 9520 but, mistakenly stuck it under the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 slot on their website. This link, indeed leads to the install for the 9520. That said, if you want to get your official goodness on you now can. Just visit the Indosat BlackBerry download page and look under the 9550 section. No doubt someone will adjust this over time but for now, that’s where it is.

by Adam Zeis on Aug.16, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
Not even a week after release and we have our first leaked OS for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 thanks to ChadH42 and orleff. Keep in mind this isn’t an official release, so use caution when installing so you don’t screw up your new toy :-)

Yes, we know the device has yet to be released to the masses. And yes, previous OS’ have been floating around but, since launch is now ever so close we figured we’d start logging these OS’ now since we’re still uncertain of what the BlackBerry Torch will be loaded up with. Since most these OS’ have been carrier tested it’s likely that this one will be the release version but, we dunno for certain. Grab it and hang onto it if you plan on picking up a BlackBerry Torch. Who knows, you may just need it. Disclaimer is in place for maximum coverage of our assets.
