How do I enter stanby with new OS 5-822

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

So after spending 2hrs upgrading the new OS and spending an hour customizing profiles and apps. I just notice that i cant put my phone on standby using the the mute button no more (which sucks).

So not wanting to go through the the long process of down grading and re customizing everything, is there an easy/simple way of putting the phone on standby with the new OS.

thanks in advance.

Sending emails through Shangmail

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.05, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Hi everyone!

I have a problem sending emails through my Curve 8900 with Shangmail. Shangmail is successfully fowarding my gmail account to my phone, still I am unable to send emails through the BB. I have installed the wifi service book from anworm, but when I send an email it stays with a red X infront and doesn’t really send anything. I have no data plan and intend to use Shangmail only through wifi. What am I doing wrong or not doing at all? Do I need a new specific service book? I love the BB, but this is the only thing I can’t get working…

Thanks big time!!

Best,
Viktor

Official OS 5.0.0.822 for the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and 8900 now available from T-Mobile

by Adam Zeis on Sep.03, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

T-Mobile OS 5.0.0.822

T-Mobile has officially released OS 5.0.0.822 for both the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and BlackBerry Curve 8900. We’re seeing a trend now with the ol’ .822 as this joins both the Rogers and AT&T Bold 9000 releases. Surely there is some new and slightly improved goodness with this OS, so if you’re ready and willing give it a go. Its been a while since we’ve seen an update for either of these devices, so be sure to drop a comment and let us know how its working for you if you upgrade.

OS Upgrade 5.0.0.822- problem with calendar

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.03, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I am pretty happy with the upgrade, but I ran into a problem with the calendar. I view my calendar by the week. Depending on which day of the week is highlighted, half of the calendar doesn’t show up, until you scroll over one of the days, and some of the appointments magically appear, then if you switch days, they disappear again. Also, in the week view, you cannot jump ahead or behind, by pressing "n" or "p" for next or previous week; and when you hit "t" for today, it doesn’t take you there. It looks like the quick keys have been disabled for the week view.

I know, it’s tedious, but when you use it every day, and it’s a HUGE part of your profession, it is a deal-breaker to not have full use of a calendar. Anybody else have this problem, or know how to fix that?

~David

How do I separate the SMS/MMS and Email message icons? (OS v5)

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.02, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

T-Mobile finally decided to upgrade their client 8900’s to BBOS v5.somethingorother, and while I have a separate icon for SMS/MMS, somehow the icon for my email account got hidden away. I can, however, untick the "SMS/MMS" option for the universal "Messages" app, but the "Separate SMS and Email" drop-down option is gone.

UMA Problems, I can’t get it to work!

by diggulden on Aug.31, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

So I’ve been struggling for months with only being able to get reception on my BB8900 while dangling out of a window whilst at home!

A guy from Orange said why on earth are you doing that, use the UMA through your Wi-Fi network at home and you will get a signal. Feeling slightly bemused at myself I set about doing such, only to find that once the wi-fi is set up, it should do it automatically, mine does not!!

So please help!

So some info,
v4.6.1.310 (Platform 4.2.0.127)

Hello!

I want to update the software on my 8900 on the hope it fixes my UMA problems.

My current software shows as 4.6.1.199, i take it this isnt the latest one.

How do i update the software? Can I do it straight through my Blackberry? I have no BB software installed on my PC and I dont think I have any cables to connect my BB to my PC, does this matter?

Please help!

The old track ball, question on cleaning, from a new member…

by Ricky Beantown on Aug.28, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

New to the Forum, just got a used 8900 for free(my boss bought an iPhone 4, I am sick of hearing, "Oh look, I can "swipe" and "pinch") and am activating it with ATT. It’s not in bad shape, except for the ball…

I took the BB apart and get the track ball assembly out, now can I just "dip" the track ball assembly into something to clean it? I really don’t think it’s a good idea to take it apart to clean it….Can I just spray the ball (without taking the phone apart with Electronic spray cleaner? Or should I take the phone apart and spray the ball assembly with the electronic spray cleaner?

Thanks for the help,

Jim

Hi, I just got my 8900 this week and I absolutely adore it! Still, I would like to use the GPS as well, so can you tell me some free navigation software that I can use offline (without wi-fi, just through gps and downloaded maps)?
Thanks!
