Browser Issues

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.03, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Hi, I got a Curve 8350i for work when I started a few weeks ago. We use Nextel so we can have the direct connect. I noticed that when I’m on the browser at certain sites, like YouTube for example, it defaults to Canada and thinks I’m in Canada. I am not in Canada, I am in the US. I’m not sure why this is occurring. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

8350i without BB service?

by Ricky Beantown on Aug.27, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Not too long ago my employer rolled out a two-tiered phone Nextel service for employees. Some get 8350i with a full BB data plan and some get Moto i456 with voice, PTT, MMS, and limited data (feels like GPRS). I am in the latter category. While I have absolutely no justifiable business need for a data plan I despise the crappy i465 with a passion that is difficult to describe.

I thought I would solve my problem by buying a 2nd-hand 8350i on my own dime and just popping the employer-provided SIM card in it. My hope was that I would retain what I need (voice, SMS, PTT) and be on my merry way. However, it appears that I do have voice and PTT but have lost ALL messaging capability, probably because the messaging the BB goes through their own servers and I do not have BB service.

Is there any way around this dilemma? I do need both PTT and SMS, and the only two QWERTY devices with PTT capability are the 8350i and the i465.

Boostberry SMS: directions to get working (Help)

by Ricky Beantown on Aug.17, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Ok, so here are some directions I found after hours of searching the web on this issue.

Quote:

OK people, If you want your BB 8350i to be able to have the "Compose SMS text" option just follow these instructions, and let me know if it works for you guys:

1) Go to "Options">"SMS Text",

2) Where it says "Data Coding", change it to & make sure it says "UCS2",

3)Where it says "Service Center", type: +13348000011 and click "Save",

4) Try to MMS someone and make sure it sends/receives MMS normally from your handset,

5) Do a battery pull and now it should appear the "Compose SMS Text" option when you press the BB menu button.

Now, when I go to Options -> SMS Text…The only option available is "Leave messages on SIM card (yes/no)"

Is anyone aware of how you can make these options he explains appear? Could it be because of the service books I applied to the phone in one of the stickies here, to get MMS working and such?

Any help is appreciated!!!!!!

Thanks,
h0w13r

Wall charger drains battery ??

by Ricky Beantown on Jul.28, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Twice in the past week it seems like the charger (OEM Blackberry Wall Charger) actually killed the battery when charging overnite !! Put it on charger overnite as usual and the first time it happened i looked at the phone in the morning and it said something like "shutting down due to low battery" Put it on the car charger and finally powered back up but then would not recognize the media card, had to do a battery pull to get it back. Couple days later got some wierd "OS system failure" message in the morning but this time didn’t lose the media card. Both times when i left the phone it showed that it was charging. Haven’t left it on overnite anymore but seems to be fine when i use the charger for a short period.

Possibility Of “Slideshow” Option For Home Screen Pics?

by Ricky Beantown on Jul.25, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

This may be a dumb question, but I was just wondering if there was an option to have pics show randomly each time the screen comes on. I have a bunch of different pics that I like to see on the screen, but don’t necessarily want to change the screen every few days (or less time) and want to know if there was some kind of "slideshow" setting for the home screen….thanks in advance!

transferring contacts to 8350i

by Ricky Beantown on Jul.21, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I just got my first Blackberry. I pretty much had to go with the 8350i because Nextel is the only provider with decent coverage in my area, and they just don’t offer many smartphones.

Anyhow, I want to get the contacts from a Motorola i335, which is also a Nextel phone, and transfer them to my new Blackberry 8350i. I don’t know if this matters, but the two phones are on separate accounts.

I tried transferring them through bluetooth, but every time I try, I get a message that the transfer failed. Could this be because the contacts are stored in different formats on the two phones?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
