Celebrity Sighting: Jessica Alba seen rocking a BlackBerry Bold 9700

Jessica Alba BlackBerry Bold 9700

Its been a while since we’ve posted a celebrity sighting (aside from Kim Kardashian anyway). Here we have movie star Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four, Sin City) rocking what looks to be a T-Mobile Bold 9700. Kevin is a big fan of Jessicas (Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson) and we applaud her for her choice of device – the Bold 9700 is the best BB on T-Mobile right now. But if you’re an AT&T user Jessica, you should maybe give that new Torch a try… afterall, were pretty sure RIM was handing them out to celebs for free just the other week.

Silver Trim Broken on 9700

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.07, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I’ve had my phone for a couple of months, and I just noticed the other day that the silver trip in between the keys on the keyboard is broken…. Actually all 4 trimmings are broken. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to fix this before they break off completely, or should I take it back to Rogers?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Where did the update go?

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.07, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Last night I plugged my phone into DM to backup my phone and delete a couple of themes. After the backup was complete I noticed that next to core apps that it said update (it said the current file was 24 mb and the updated file would be 39 mb. I went ahead with it and it installed. I verified the install under The applications tab (had the new updated Core App date of 9/06/10, the last update was 8/13/10). This morning I wake up and it’s gone and the core apps date is back to 8/13/10. Where did it go? My phone must have reset in the middle of the night or something.

I don’t know what the update was for but its disappeared!! I am on .714 with T-Mobile BTW.

Cal Failed

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.07, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

As soon as I try to make a call on my 9700 Bold, it doesn’t even attempt to make the phone call — and just says "call failed." With the call failed sign, the phone beeps at three different frequencies. The BBM works fine and every other aplication work well. I have tried using another chip in the phone and it doesn’t work. In addition, I have tried my chip in an older phone and it works.
I think this is some software or setting issue. If anyone has found a solution or has faced a similar problem, please let me know.

Better after-market 9700 battery?

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

HI all im looking for an after market battery for the 9700 thats better quality than the OEM one. I believe the OEM one is 1500mAh

Is there companies that sell some that are >1500mAh WITHOUT the need of a extended back door.

Would also like to know if they are worth it?

Thanks!

Strange sound issue

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I had my BB on the normal sound profile (no vibrations). I received a text and the notice went off normally (the Sonic the Hedgehog ring "ding"). About 3 seconds after the ding, I got another text but the phone vibrated on that one. I’ve had that happen more than once. I checked my sound profile settings and under no circumstances is it set to vibrate.

Telnet Client

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I just got my new Blackberry Bold 9700 through T-mobile and I love it. I had a Blackberry Tour through the Sprint network before that and that was what made me a Blackberry fan. I was using a Telnet/SSH client called Midpssh on my Tour and it worked beautifully. I never had any problems at any point. Now that I have my Bold, Midpssh doesn’t seem to want to work. I keep getting an "invalid url parameter" message when I enter the host name and port number. I even tried entering it in as an ip address and port number and it still won’t work. I’ve become very frustrated with this.

I’m wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this or if anyone might be able to help me at all. I am feeling rather stuck. I’m willing to try other applications and setting and whatnot. I just want to know if I’m either missing something here or if someone has had this same problem. I seriously need some major help.

A few issues

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

First I noticed once in awhile my led indicator will stop flashing a hard rest normally will fix but I don’t want to have to reset my phone all the time. Second is a sms issue after I have been texting someone maybe after 10 txt the msg will be in my inbox unopened an it won’t let me open it. A hard reset fixes it but like I said I don’t want to reboot all the time. Third issue is that my stand by key normally turns my screen off but sometimes it just dims it, what’s going on with my 9700?

New To Blackberry – Media Player Problem – Help!

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Hey all,

First off, I have to say I’m absolutely in love with my Blackberry Bold 9700. Seriously, I understand the term "Crackberry" now. Can.Not.Put.It.Down.

I consider myself rather technologically savvy, which is why I’m resorting to all of YOUR expertise. I’m stumped.

My media player has been working fine lately – I have all my music in SDCARD/Blackberry/Music as instructed.

I recently downloaded and installed Waze (a sweet GPS program with voice prompts and turn by turn instructions). It prompted me tonight on my first use to download the English voice prompts, so I did, and didn’t think anything of it.

However, just a few hours ago, I was using my Media Player, and noticed all the prompt audio files were showing up in my Media Player! I hit Options and then Properties, and they are definitely stored in the Device Memory under the application Waze, and NOT on the SD card in the music directory.

So my question is this: why is the Media Player searching the entire phone for media files, and how do I change this?

My apologies if I didn’t get directly to the point, but I prefer to be as thorough as possible.

I have two options.

1). First, and what I hope to happen, someone finds a way to resolve this issue with a setting, or something I overlooked.

2). I use a different GPS program. I do NOT like Google Maps. The voice prompts were inconsistent, and never accurate. Tele-Nav is out of the question, because, frankly, I don’t want to pay $9.99/month for a subscription to something which was free when I had Sprint (I now have T-Mobile).

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to your response(s).

Regards,

Eric Olsen

One last Newbie question for the night…

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.05, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

(I swear I will become less annoying tomorrow. Haha)

I’ve had several people ask me for my PIN the last 2 days. I know that is for BBM and all of that. But if I give a person my PIN, do they then have access to my contact information, full name, city, etc? I’m all about talking to cool people via BBM but I’m not all about creepers having too much information. I don’t want to end up with weird people calling me or knowing where I’m located. I know it seems stupid but we live in a world that this has to be on people’s minds.

Thanks!

can not send mms and can only recieve mms through “viewmymessage.com”

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.05, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Hi, for the entire time I have had AT&T I have been unable to send MMS messages. I’ve called AT&T and they’ve assured me that my MMS is set up correctly on their end. They even cancelled my plan and re set up my account multiple times. I use a 9700 now and previously had an unlocked storm that was unable to send or recieve MMS as well. I’ve tried swapping my SIM and my bold multiple times and no matter what, I receive the same errors. When I attempt to send an MMS (wether its just text, audio or pictures) I recieve the error message "failed to send message". When I recieve a MMS I recieve the message "go to viewmymessages.com to view this message" I can then pull the message up but its sorta a pain to constantly view my mms messages that way. Anyone got any ideas?
