CrackBerry guide to BlackBerry school apps
by Ryan Blundell on Sep.03, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
Become the Teacher’s Pet with these BlackBerry apps!
Doesn’t it seem like I have a bad habit of pointing out what some people fear and dread? It’s not that I get any pleasure out of it (bah-hahahaa). Like it or not, it’s almost time for school. It’s a new year; a year full of possibilities, memories and accomplishments. For some the joy (or pain) starts with a trip to get school supplies. If I were you, I would hold off on the sighing, whining and shuffling of your feet while the shopping cart fills up. Sharing in the excitement with your parents will probably pay off; and I’ll tell you why. Once the positive vibe is felt by all, you may find it easier to convince them that you need a BlackBerry this year. Tell them how it will keep you organized. Tell them how it will help you keep in touch. Tell them how it *ahem * won’t contribute to you social life. Tell them how you visited CrackBerry.com and read their Guide to Student Apps. Last year, we told you how to go back to school BlackBerry style. This year, I decided to expand on that list and give you another collection of applications; you know, for extra credit.

BlackBerry Native IM apps updated to version 2.5.63
by Adam Zeis on Sep.03, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
The native BlackBerry IM clients got another round of updates earlier this week. Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo!, MSN Messenger and ICQ all now sit at version 2.5.63. These were all tested in the Beta Zone for a few weeks so should be good to go all around with some minor updates and even a new icon or two. Nothing major from what I can tell, but an update is an update. You can grab all the latest from BlackBerry App World.

TELUS named first Canadian carrier to implement carrier billing for BlackBerry App World
by Bla1ze on Sep.02, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
While a lot of folks were more interested in the fact TELUS was releasing the BlackBerry Torch on September 24th, reading over the announcement it seems as though some important BlackBerry App World news got overlooked. The press related the majority of the information to the device launch but near the bottom it was noted:
TELUS is excited to be the first carrier in Canada to offer clients the ability to pay for their BlackBerry App World purchases on their mobile phone bill as well as through credit card payment. This ability will be available prior to the BlackBerry Torch launch.
That’s great news for TELUS customers and a huge advancement for BlackBerry App World in the Canadian market. While some not really look at it as being a huge thing, it means quite a bit. Especially, for those who develop BlackBerry applications as their goods will now be more accessible then ever.

Starbucks Card Mobile for BlackBerry now available
by Adam Zeis on Sep.02, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
If you’re a Starbucks fan then your life just got more convenient (well, kind of). Starbucks has released their Starbucks Card Mobile app for BlackBerry. This cool app lets you convert your Starbucks card to digitalness and keep all of your info right on your device. Just enter your card number and the app can display your barcode, lets you track your balance and more. In some test areas (looks like only the Bay Area and Seattle) you can even pay for your drinks using your card number in the app – very cool. The app looks to be available for most devices and you can grab it by texting GO to 70845 or hitting the link below. Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Share Web pages between your PC and BlackBerry with Home to Phone
by obi on Sep.02, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
I have been testing Home to Phone for the past couple weeks, and have to say it is one of the most useful BlackBerry applications I have come across. Like Android’s Chrome to Phone, Home to Phone lets you share web pages to and from your BlackBerry device and desktop browser (Firefox plugin, Chrome beta, or Windows application).
Setting up Home to Phone is simple and easy. It can be done in about 5 minutes. After installing the BlackBerry Home to Phone application, you will need to install the Firefox plugin on your PC. Once both are installed, you will have to set a passcode for authorization on both the device, and the plugin.
Once you are all setup, the fun begins. Remember, Home to Phone allows you to share web pages from both PC to BlackBerry, and BlackBerry to PC. When sending a web page from your PC, the page automatically opens on your BlackBerry, and is almost instant. Another great feature is the ability to send phone numbers, which arrive in your inbox and are clickable, quickly connecting the call.
Overall, Home to Phone is one of the best BlackBerry applications I have used. I use it dozens of times per day and it works without any bugs whatsoever. Personally, throughout my busy day, there are countless situations where this comes in handy. The application is available on all BlackBerry models running OS 5 and up, but really shines on the new BlackBerry 6 webkit browser. You can pick it up at the CrackBerry App Store for the introductary price of $2.99.

2010 Yahoo! Fantasy Football launcher for BlackBerry Smartphones now available
by Adam Zeis on Sep.01, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums
It’s that time once again when football geeks unite to take on fantasy teams everywhere. If you’re like me, you want to be able to access you team 24/7 whether at home or on the go. Last year we had the benefit of a semi-decent app for Yahoo! fantasy teams, it has been replaced this year by a mobile site launcher that hopes to keep you in the loop. I was a pretty bug fan of the app as it let you make roster adjustments as well as view info on your league, but for some reason the app is no more this year. Instead the launcher takes you straight to the fantasy mobile site (active on September 1st) is all we have this time around. The mobile site gets the job done and really has all that needs to be there, but it’s totally not as fun as having a dedicated app. In any case, you can still get your game on and download the Y! Fantasy Football launcher free from BlackBerry App World.
