Blackberry Curve 8310 & Data Plans

by Ricky Beantown on May.25, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Is there a way to use my Blackberry Curve without having the data plan? This thing that ticks me off the most is that this "forced plan" is if your phone was put on your plan after Nov 2009. We had this Blackberry on our account for a year, then my daughter got something else and now that it’s junk she wants to go back to the BB…BUT they say I have to pay for the data plan even though it’s been our phone for 18 months!

8820 SMS problems

by Ricky Beantown on May.10, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Hi guys, I have a weird problem with my SMS. For some messages, the blackberry is able to determine which name the phone number belongs to and displays the name. But some messages show the contact’s number instead of showing their name.

I have checked and I do have those contacts stored in my address book. Does anyone encounter a similar problem and hopefully has a solution?

Thanks.

Can I install the BB OS or only my carries OS (Vodafone)

by Ricky Beantown on May.07, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Hello everybody,
I’m new with blackberry’s, I have a unlocked Vodafone 8820 with 4.2 OS and want to know if I can use the official BB OS software or do I need to download my carriers OS (Vodafone).
When I connect to the BB desktop software I get the option to install the BB 4.5. Can I install the software without problems? Or can I only install my carries OS?
If I start the wizard and go to the last step, I get a warning that the device must be activated before being able to make phone calls or receive email. Can I activate my BB after installing the BB OS without problems? Is that possible?
I need to be sure before going ahead with the installation; I don’t want to make my BB unusable.
Thnx in advanced!

Wifi Problems – Att will not allow wifi access without Blackberry Plan

by Ricky Beantown on Apr.16, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I am unable to use wifi because in default browser setting is only choice in pull down menu is blackberry browser. No dropdown menu for any other setting. Without this setup, my phone finds the wifi hotspots, connects to it (with yellow circle), but when I tried to open the browser, it looks for network connections, and will not go thru wifi connection.
ATT says that only way to get the default wifi browser setting is to subscribe to Blackberry Plan. Once you subscribe, you cannot unsubsribe it. This seems like a "scam". Once you subscribe to the plan and paying to ATT, then why would you need WIFI. Att blames it on Blackberry. According to them, Blackberry requires that all Blackberry must subscribe to their plan.
Did any body experience this.
Anyone has any suggestion as to how to get wifi access w/o subscription. How to add Default Wifi Bowser option into Browser configuration.
Most of the threads assumes that you have either "wifi Browser" or "hotspot" option available under advance options/browser. Mine gives no option. Only Blacjberry Browser.
Any help will be truly appreciated. My phone Model No. is ATT Blackberry 8820 v.4.2
Good Day.

by Ricky Beantown on Mar.27, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I have a unlimited messaging plan with no data, but cannot receive or send the MMS messages that are on my plan. This happened when I upgraded to OS version 4.5. I can also no longer use the browser, because I don’t have the service book entries. Do you guys have any idea how I could fix these issues?
