6acebook 1.8

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.08, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I received a notification email in facebook today telling me a newer version of fb was available.

I’ve read in avrious places that 1.8 isn’t great. Is this true? Also, why did I receive a notification in fb rather than througfh app world?

Quick Private Beta invitation for Merge Contacts Application!

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.07, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Dear All,
Hot on heels with release of Jeweled, we are now ready with a new Merge Contacts application.

Merge Contacts is an application for your BlackBerry that helps you merge duplicate and redundant contacts based on selected criteria. The app allows you to merge duplicate contacts one by one with manual intervention, or automatically all at once.

We want to test run this app for different device types and OSes. In case you are interested in trying a pre-release app, please post below your device model and full OS version so that we can get the ball rolling. I think we will start with a small group (maybe the first 15 to reply) for private beta.

Screen shots attached for an idea.

Best Regards,
Ani.

Questions About Ascendo Money

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I currently use quicken to track personal finances on my desktop PC.

I want a BB app that will allow me to record transactions to my BB and then sync to the pc on one easy step.

It is my understanding that there is no BB app that will sync with Quicken.

I am willing to entertain switching PC program from quicken to Ascendo Money if the desktop Ascendo money program gives the same functionality as quicken:
– download transactions from my bank (Regions)
– memorize monthly re-occurring bills, so they can be entered easily
– keep both ending balance and running balance
– preform costing reports for categories and payee
– reconcile accounts

I do not need this much functionality on the BB (but it would be nice) mainly just a transaction record that will sync easily with the desktop program.

Is asendo money the program for me???

App and picture locking

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I have been in the market for a quality locking app for a while. One that will lock RIM apps and 3rd party apps that I have, as well as lock and encrypt pictures or other files I may not want friends or family to find.

Through my searching I have found a number of apps that do these things but not all at once or one lacks this feature or that one.

SafeBox – locks only apps

AppLock – seems to do everything except encrypt photos and other documents. Reports of serious battery drain.

Secure Photo – Encrypts photos

mblVault – Encrypts photos and documents. I have read complaints about it’s limitations like only handling up to 8 files at once, but overall seems to be one with the least amount of complaints but no app locking option

I know I forgot to list some of the ones I have found, but this where you come in my fellow Crack(berry)heads. What apps like this have you found? What do you think of them? Would you recommend them?

Is there a way to back up 3rd Party Apps and their data?

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Is there a way to back up 3rd party applications with their DATA? I can back up the apps with the DM or BBSAK but when I restore all my registration codes and my links/shortcuts for BB Meterberry are gone. I have all the info written down in an Excel file, it is a pain to put it all back in, especially if I am trying different hybrids trying to find "the one" that is best for me.

Free programming text editor: TextWarrior v0.5a

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.06, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

As one of the few geeks using the BlackBerry, I thought it would be useful to view and edit code on the move. So I give you TextWarrior, a text editor that is free in cost and source!

You can download it from Mobihand or Handango.

This is just a preliminary alpha release, and is meant to gather feedback, suggestions and bug reports. That will decide what features I will implement next.

Currently, only syntax highlighting for C, C++ and Java is supported. Depending on demand, I might add support for other languages like HTML and Python. More info in the readme file in the download.

Oh, and for non-geeks, you can use it to edit regular text files on your memory card and device, with a nifty search panel as well.

iHeart Radio NASCAR

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.05, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I just wanted to let the community know that you can listen to NASCAR races on iHeartRadio.

Just select Cities > Indianapolis, IN > 1260 WNDE

I have had great success with iHeartRadio so far. I can use it over EDGE or WiFi.

All of my favorite radio programs are accessible too. Rush, Hannity, Beck. I had to download an AirKast progam for WJR to get MSU football, but that works perfect too.

Natwest Banking App and T-Mobile UK

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.05, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

I Bank with Natwest Bank and have downloaded the Natwest Banking app and it fails to connect everytime I try to use it. Even after following the setup instructions on the monitise website on the steps to follow. I’m with T-Mobile UK. If there’s anyone that Banks with Natwest that uses T-Mobile UK and has got the banking app to work then any tips on getting it to work would be appreciated. I’m using a Curve 8520 with willyboy v7.1 8520 Hybrid.

Replacement needed instead of BBNotepad for HTML.

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.05, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

OK, been trying to get this to work for a while and it has now driven me to the forums.

I am trying to make use of the fantastic keyboard on my 9700 for updating and coding new websites. Currently the closest I have got is BBNotepad and then uploading with Rove.

There is a problem with BBNotepad that I cannot quite figure out… Examples follow of a page saved in all the available save options. If you load eny into a standard text editor and resave they work perfectly, however straight from BNotepad and we get these weird symbols:

ww*.cwolf.co.uk/code/encryption.html
ww*.cwolf.co.uk/code/unicode.html
ww*.cwolf.co.uk/code/unicode-be.html
ww*.cwolf.co.uk/code/utf8.html
ww*.cwolf.co.uk/code/utf8wobom.html

So – does anyone know of either an alternative editor I can use or some explanation/fix for this from BBNotepad?

*Edit: For some reason the hundreds of Comments on the blogs don’t count towards the site Forum post count so cannot post live links – I don’t believe in spamming a sitejust for post count. Replace the * with a w.

Download large file with this download manager!

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.04, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Ever wanted to download large files right from your blackberry? But limited by the 2.3MB blackberry limit?
Try this application. Its the NetTurtle download manager.
If you want to download large file from megaupload for example you have the link but disappointed because the file too large pop up. Dont worry click the more details button and the too large blablabla page will show up. Click ‘p’ and copy the address, paste the link in netturtle and voila your large files will start downloading.
It developed by matrixy in mandrill.co.cc i only share here. Donate there if you like this app and want him to continue develop this great app.

(I reupload the 2.0 version because the 2.1 seems not working properly, I attach the download link in my signature since I can’t post link yet)

buddyguard question

by voltaire64 on Sep.04, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

Have the paid version of the program and am generally happy with it. One problem I do have is the email address. They advise you not to use your bb email address so I use one of my shaw accounts which are also on the phone. The problem with this is that it takes upto 15 minutes for a BG test message to get through, if I was to use my bb email address with the program a lock command, etc would be instantaneous. Why do they not recommend the bb email address?

What’s up with Berryweather radar?

by Ricky Beantown on Sep.04, 2010, under BB Geeks, Help Forums

It is now two days that the radar, at least for the NYC area, is not working! Just when you need it most, this feature frequently lets you down! I tried submitting a trouble ticket to Bellshare, but got a message that it’s not being monitored by a customer service agent! I love the program, but it often lets you down just when you need it most.
